Our targeted audience is teens and young adults who can appreciate horror for entertainment purposes considering our concept had a lot of made-up aspects since we obviously don’t have a cure to the virus let alone know what would happen if we had one.  

What is your concept? (Be thorough & specific. Review the links on Blackboard) 

Our concept is realist horror. Embarking on phycological more relevant ideas. Dipping into the thrills and uneasy aspects of more serious horror, not the usual cheesy jump scare and zombie films. Instead, we wanted to create a Film that touches and explores the terrors and panic caused of the effects of the Coronavirus spreading globally. For instance, we want to build suspense with music and lighting to demonstrate how troubled the film would be.  We would base our film around one family and their normal lives- until a vaccine for the current deadly virus starts being handed out in dosages. The plot starts interfering with a conflict when side-effects start occurring and the family who had the “perfect life” becomes the exact opposite.  

How did you conceive the idea for this concept? 

We came up with the concept because were inspired by directors/ writers of several different movies who also approached similar concepts. Such as the 2007 Film “I am Legend” written by Francis Lawrence.  But most importantly we were inspired because of the relevance of the actual topic in our society today.  

What do you believe is unique about your concept? 

We believe our concept is unique because the virus is something currently taking place in our world right now. In our generation as well as older generations either one fears the virus or takes it too lightly, and because of that we wanted to create something to not only spread awareness but to show off our creativity and create something entertaining for our targeted audience.   

Why do you believe this product will be of interest to your audience? 

We believe our targeted audience of teens and young adults would find interest to our film/ concept because of the relevance of it. Considering the virus is something so big currently it’s something individuals would be eager to view and take a perspective on.

  • Focus around one family specifically. In order to see more perspectives of how people are dealing with this virus.  

  • Show characters of different age groups and genders.  

 


After pitching mine and my partners idea for our film, our peers gave us extremely helpful feedback. Such as plot suggestions and questions that further helped develop our concept. For example, one of our peers suggested we incorporated different characters of all different ages and genders to help expand and evolve different perspectives. For instance, after brainstorming we decided to base our film around one family with individuals of every perspective. Including younger siblings, older ones, as well as a mother and father. After being asked several questions from our peers our vision for our film overall became more clear.  

 

Following that I did some final research to help finalize not only our decision to create a film but the genre. On the website “The Numbers” 1 I concluded that some films did better than others depending on their genre and plot. For example, the movie “I am Legend” was ranked number 1 in ratings. Not only did the movie generate the most income but was a fan favorite over all genres despite being a horror/ thriller film. As well as on the website “Statista”2 the publisher includes information about the different age groups and which genre appeals to what. With horror being most popular is the “18-29” age range. Additionally, on the website Amy Watson, an expert media coverer published the data, “The findings reveal that favorability of the horror genre reduced with age...” Helping us decide our intended targeted audience for our film. Reading the article “Exploring the role of meaningful experiences in users' appreciation of "good movies” helped me get a better grasp of how vigorous the industry can be. Going in depth to the different categories and how each one does regarding sales and audience interaction. According to this article, horror films may not be the top seller, but it’s very flexible. “The remaining genres were identified as descriptive of fewer than 30% of the film titles, with horror films (1%) the least frequently used descriptor.” In contrast, the article also includes information about different films and what audiences have taken away from them. Although horror films might not be the film to take away a lesson from, they’re the best for entertainment. From the same article the author states, “Rather than assuming only hedrnically based motivations and gratifications to understanding the entertainment experience, scholars have begun to suggest that additional gratifications are needed to more fully capture the entertainment landscape”

 Peer Review       After sharing my final project with my peers I got super helpful feedback. As well as a lot of compliments! I appreciated everyones positive and critical comments considering they all helped me look at my film in different point of views, especially as the audience.      To start off one of my peers made a comment about the audio in one of the final scenes of my film. I realized that the audio was a bit busy, considering there was a bit of background noise so I made sure to tone that done in the timeline. As well as another student, who noticed another sound issue. She noted that there had seemed to be an overlapping of sound in the beginning of my film where I had a clock ticking noise playing in order to build suspense.   To Team or Not to Team After lots of solid  research  and thinking I've decided it would be best to work  in a team for  my  final project.  Not only do my partner and I  both   work  better in  groups but  working in teams have many benefits.  Such as learning and acquiring new s kills such as Problem solving, decision making, Communication Skills,  and Organizing and Planning Skills.      In  the “Lost at sea” assignment we completed in class we worked on our own to try and make a  list of  order of importance of items one might need to surviv e lost a t  sea.
