 To Team or Not to Team

After lots of solid research and thinking I've decided it would be best to work in a team for my final project. Not only do my partner and I both work better in groups but working in teams have many benefits. Such as learning and acquiring new skills such as Problem solving, decision making, Communication Skills, and Organizing and Planning Skills.  

 

In the “Lost at sea” assignment we completed in class we worked on our own to try and make a list of order of importance of items one might need to survive lost at sea. Afterwards we tried the same assignment in teams and compared the experiences. Personally, I worked more proficient in a group for many reasons. For instance, being able to communicate made it easier for more ideas to be brainstormed. Widening the opportunity to be more precise, deepening our understanding of the subject area, which happened to be with items regarding being lost at sea for this assignment.  

 

My partner for the projects name is Sophie, and after analyzing her social medias to learn more about her and her personality traits, I concluded that she is a very organized and outgoing person with very bold personality traits. Her social medias all consist of bright colors and big texts showing off all her hobbies and favorite things. Personally, I believe that ones’ social platforms really reflect a person especially in todays’ day in  age.  Her traits I observed throughout her different platforms, continue to prove my point of working in teams and why it’s preferable for me personally. Sophie would bring different attributions to the table that I couldn’t that would really push our final product to be of better quality. 

 

For example, in the Article, “Team building and group dynamics: creating and fostering a culture of teamwork requires trust, collaboration, and accountability” written by Eli Becker the author introduces and discusses different strategies for success and the impacts of working in teams. Becker includes the statement, “Our relationship network has grown, systems have been put in place to help with productivity, our planning is more succinct, and the team is connecting more one-on-one with people to explain their roles." Expressing how their company working in teams has opened new doors for them, pushing individuals to communicate and create bonds with one another.  In another article titled “Songwriting loafing or creative collaboration?: A comparison of individual and team written billboard hits in the USA.” the authors Terry F. Pettijohn, II and Shujaat F. Ahmed describe the different effects of outcomes of songs produced individually and collaboratively. “While social loafing may occur within teams of songwriters, some teams may produce better songs together than individuals writing alone.” Even though sometimes, working in teams can get a bad reputation because of the opportunities to become easily distracted, at the same time those same opportunities can as easily be positive. Communication is key and being social and getting to know your team members on personal levels is significant to creating a quality product no matter the subject. Even so, after studies done it was concluded that, “In order to really understand the social psychological process of songwriting, each individual case could be individually studied since the creative process of songwriting is influenced by many factors (McIntyre, 2008), including the social context.” Even if projects, or in this case music, is created individually it’s all influenced by many different factors. Although the more creative brains you have working together the bigger the opportunity is to create and publish surpassing work. 

 

In my final analysis my partner and I have concluded that working together will assist us in creating a product of higher quality, rather than working individually. After exploring and researching the positives and negatives of the two options, teamwork has outweighed immensely. Together my partner; Sophie and I will be able to share separate ideas to combine our thoughts and finally be able to produce a short introduction movie scene including every aspect necessary as best as we can!
